Combat
Parkour Combat Guide
MOTORSLICE combat is fast, weighty, and unforgiving. Here's the full system, demystified.
The 3-button combat system
| Input | Action | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Tap attack | Light slash | Standard damage. Cancels into jump and slide. |
| Hold attack | Charged attack / Parry | Heavy damage on hit. Parries any orange-tinted projectile. |
| Mid-air attack on orange surface | Chainsaw anchor | Traversal + DPS in one. Required for bosses. |
Parry: the most undertaught mechanic
The game never forces you to parry, so most players miss it. Parry IS the charged attack — there is no separate input.
- Hold attack to wind up. P glows faintly.
- Release on an incoming orange attack. The projectile reverses.
- Reflected saws often stun the source — that's how you ground the Helicopter and topple the Combine.
Chainsaw anchoring
Orange surfaces are the game's grammar. Wherever you see one, you can anchor the chainsaw mid-air to ride along it. This is both:
- Traversal: cross gaps that look impossible.
- Damage: every weak point is an orange surface — anchoring it IS the attack.
Enemy archetypes
- Drones: small, fast, melee. Light attack chain works.
- Tentacle motors: stationary, fire saws. Parry the saw with charged attack to cleave them in pairs.
- Heavy turrets: parry their projectile back, or close the gap with slide i-frames.
- Bosses: every boss is a level. See all 8 boss guides.
Survival rules
- P dies in 1–3 hits. Do not facetank.
- Slide beats jump for low attacks (saws, crushers).
- If a fight is not progressing, look for an orange surface you missed — combat unlocks via traversal.
Apply this to a real fight
- Helicopter (Ch.2) — the cleanest first parry
- Combine (Ch.6) — parry-to-topple is mandatory
- Bucket Wheel (Ch.7) — chainsaw anchor at maximum length
