MOTORSLICE on Steam Deck
MOTORSLICE is one of the better Steam Deck experiences of 2026 — if you set it up right. Here's the cheat sheet.
TL;DR
| Verdict | Recommended on Steam Deck |
| Best preset | Default Medium @ 40 FPS lock |
| Resolution | 720p (Deck native, auto-fits) |
| Proton | No forced compatibility — runs out of the box |
| Source | Steam Deck HQ review |
Steam Deck HQ's reviewer Noah Kupetsky concluded MOTORSLICE is a “solid experience to take wherever you go” on Deck, with no settings changes needed. AllKeyShop and TheOuterHaven came to the same conclusion independently.
Three preset options compared
| Preset | FPS target | Frame stability | Battery | Visuals | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Medium @ 40 lock (recommended) | 40 FPS locked | Stable | ~3 hrs | Good | Default. Most users. |
| Medium @ 45–50 lock | 45–50 locked | Stable | ~2.5 hrs | Good | You want smoother motion, can charge often. |
| Low @ 60 cap | ~60, drops to 50s | Some stutter | ~2 hrs | Visibly softer | Speedrun / parry training only. |
Why 40 FPS lock is correct here
- Movement is weighty by design. 40 FPS feels appropriate — this is not Ghostrunner.
- Parry windows are generous compared to twitch parkour games. You don't need 60 FPS to land them.
- No drops > smooth feel. Locked 40 always beats variable 50–60 with hitches, especially in boss arenas with lots of saws on screen.
- Battery life nearly doubles vs. uncapped — important for a 9–10 hour game on the go.
Recommended Deck-specific tweaks
- Open Steam → MOTORSLICE → Properties → Compatibility → leave Proton on default (auto-detects best version).
- In-game Settings → Video → leave preset at Medium (Deck auto-selects this).
- Performance overlay (… menu) → Frame Limit → 40.
- Refresh Rate → 40 Hz (so 40 FPS hits a clean multiple).
- TDP Limit → 10 (saves ~30% battery, no measurable performance loss at this preset).
Known Deck issues at launch
Per multiple reviewers (Steam Deck HQ, TheOuterHaven), no major Deck-specific bugs at launch. Two minor caveats both reviewers note:
- In darkly-lit interiors textures can look low-quality even at high preset (engine-side, not Deck-specific).
- Camera in tight boss-fight rooms can be awkward — controller analog stick > Deck trackpad here.
Verdict
MOTORSLICE is one of the strongest handheld-first action games of 2026. The 40 FPS feel matches the design, the file size is reasonable, and the chapter+checkpoint system is friendly to bursty 30-minute sessions. Pair it with the walkthrough on a second screen.
